How Do You Measure Your Value and Self Worth?
How do you measure your value? Your self worth? How interesting that value and self-worth are financial terms…
I found this story in a free paper at my bakery. I’m posting this here at the wishes of the article’s author. (See his call to action at the bottom.) I don’t know the identity “well known speaker.” If you do, please post the name so we can give him credit for his genius.
“A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200 people, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?” Hands started going up.
He said, “I’m going to give this $20 to one of you, but first let me do this.” He proceeded to crumple up the $20 bill. He then asked, “Who still wants it?” Still the hands went up in the air.
“Well,” he replied, “what if I do this?” and he dropped the bill on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, crumpled and dirty.
“Now who still wants it?” And the hands still went up in the air. “My friends,” he said, “we have learned a valuable lesson. No matter what I do to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.”
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled and ground into the dirt by circumstances that come into our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or will happen, YOU WILL NEVER LOSE YOUR VALUE. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you. The of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but WHO WE ARE.
If you do not pass this on, you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope it can bring.”

Thanks for sharing this message, Morgana! You are doing wonderful work in the world spreading the money message. I don’t know the identity of the speaker, but it’s a great example. I will share it with my Financial Stress Reduction Workshop participants!
Love you and wish you many big ships unloading treasures at your docks!
Hugs,
Chellie

This article points so clearly to our value is not in what we see in us or what we look like. Our value is us and is divine.

What a brilliant metaphor! I will share this story, it’s a wonderful demonstration of our inherent value.

What happens when we don’t exactly feel the love from others, but must find the love from within. It isn’t easy to do when you feel crumpled and lying on the floor. Where is the way to measure your self worth and value then? As I understand it, we shouldn’t look to others to know our value by their love. How do you cultivate self love in the darkest times?
I do like what you’ve written and hope that it helps many.
thanks,
Lucy

Hi Lucy.
Here’s one of the key reasons Financial Alchemy works so well, not just with money but with romance, health, and self love– we make the imaginary Money Honey someone whose love matters to you… for instance a handsome and romantic guy. You experience your Money Honey’s love and acknowledgment as if it’s coming from outside yourself. He loves you unconditionally, so you can experience that love for yourself.
